Type its name into the Search carriers box at the top of the distribution list. The list narrows as you type to every carrier whose name contains what you typed, including carriers that don't have anyone to send to yet, so you can add a rep on the spot. The list also opens on your carriers- the ones with recipients for this RFP, instead of every carrier eligible for it- and every rep on a carrier tells you why they're there.

Where to find it

Open the renewal, go to the RFP Builder, and choose the Distribution List step (the page titled Who Gets the RFP?). The search box, the carrier count, and the Show all carriers link sit right above the carrier list. The same controls appear on the RFP Submission page.

Finding a carrier

  1. Click into Search carriers and type part of the carrier's name. Any part works: "cross" finds Blue Cross carriers just as well as "blue" does.
  2. The list narrows as you type. The count beside the box changes to something like 3 of 52 shown · 6 selected.
  3. Turn the carrier on, adjust its benefits or add a recipient, just as you would without a search.
  4. Click the X in the box, or press Esc, to clear the search and get your full list back.

If nothing matches, you'll see No carriers match that name.

Your carriers first, everything else one click away

The distribution list opens on your carriers: the ones that already have at least one recipient on this RFP, usually because a distribution rule placed them there. Every other eligible carrier is tucked away so a medical RFP doesn't open on a page of carriers you never send to.

  • Click Show all carriers (N) to see every eligible carrier. The link then reads Show only my carriers (N) to switch back.
  • Search always looks through the full list, so a carrier the default view hides is still a few keystrokes away.
  • Your choice is saved with the RFP when you save the page, so the list reopens the way you left it.

Why each rep is on the list

Every recipient carries a label that says how they got there:

  • Distribution Rule, in purple with a lightning-bolt icon: Plansight added this rep automatically because one of your brokerage's distribution rules matches this RFP. Rule-placed reps come back on every RFP the rule covers.
  • This RFP Only, with a person-and-pen icon: someone added this rep by hand on this RFP. They stay saved on this RFP, but no rule carries them to the next one.

If you find yourself adding the same rep as This RFP Only on every renewal, that's a rule waiting to be written. Set one up for that rep on the Carrier Reps page, where each part of a rule (benefit type, state, market size, office, region, and employee count) has its own column you can filter, and Plansight places that rep for you from then on.

Good to know

  • Search matches carrier names only. It doesn't search rep names or email addresses.
  • Your selections are safe. Searching or switching between your carriers and all carriers only changes what's on screen. Every carrier you've turned on, every benefit you've set, and every recipient you've added stays in place and is saved with the page, even if that carrier is out of view when you click save.
  • Carriers with no recipients turn up in a search. Add a rep to one, and it stays on your list after you clear the search. If you don't add anyone, it tucks back away.
  • Enable/Disable All acts only on what you can see. With a search active the control reads Enable/Disable All Shown (N) and only flips the carriers in view. Clear the search, and it reads Enable/Disable All Carriers and covers the whole list.
  • Enable/Disable All appears only before the RFP is sent. Once a renewal has gone to market, turn carriers on or off one at a time.
  • The "selected" count includes carriers you can't see. It's the total for the RFP, so you always know how many carriers will get it.
  • Excluded carriers are searched too. If your brokerage uses carrier panels, the Excluded Carriers section opens while you search and closes again when you clear it.
  • Labels don't change who gets the RFP. Distribution Rule and This RFP Only describe how a rep was added. You remove either kind the same way.

Type a few letters, find the carrier, add the rep, send. And every rep you add by hand shows you which distribution rule to set up next.
