The Origination Reason tells Plansight how a plan should be handled when it’s pushed to BenefitPoint.
You’ll choose between New, Renewal, or Replacement. That choice matters. Each option affects what data is carried forward, such as commissions, splits, contributions, and eligibility.
Most brokers use New or Renewal, but some organizations also use Replacement. There’s no universal rule. What matters is how your brokerage defines these terms and uses them consistently.
Before pushing a plan, make sure you understand how your organization treats renewals versus replacements. Choosing the wrong origination reason can lead to unexpected results once the plan is pushed.
If the wrong origination reason is selected, the plan can be corrected on the BenefitPoint side. However, Plansight only allows a plan to be pushed once, so it’s important to choose carefully before confirming.
If you want items like commissions and splits copied from the parent plan, make sure the correct origination reason is selected before sending the plan.
If the origination reason is set to Renewal or Replacement, you’ll be required to select a prior plan. This list is pulled from your BenefitPoint account and represents the plan you’re renewing or replacing.
The renewal date of the prior plan must match the effective date of the plan you’re pushing from Plansight. If the dates don’t align, the system won’t allow the plan to be sent.
This step ensures the new plan is correctly linked to the prior plan and allows items like commissions, splits, contributions, and eligibility to carry over as expected.
