Every new plan group in Quotes takes its carrier's name, like Aetna, and every quote inside it is named from its plan group and option, like Aetna 2.1. You can tell at a glance which carrier a group belongs to and which group a quote sits in, in the dropdowns, the spreadsheet headers and anything you send to a carrier. Names are labels you can change at any time. Plansight keeps them distinct inside an RFP, so two plan groups never end up with the same name.
Where to find it
Open an RFP, go to Quotes and open any plan group. Its name shows in the plan group dropdown at the top of the input sheet. The pencil button next to that dropdown opens Rename Plan Group.
The naming rule
- Plan groups take the carrier's name. The first Aetna plan group on an RFP is Aetna. If the RFP already has one by that name for the same benefit, the next is Aetna 2, then Aetna 3. Plansight uses the lowest number that is free. A plan group with no carrier is named New Plan Group.
- Quotes take their plan group's number and their option. In plan group Aetna 2, options 1, 2, and 3 are Aetna 2.1, Aetna 2.2, and Aetna 2.3. The first group counts as 1, so its quotes are Aetna 1.1 and Aetna 1.2. In a plan group you named yourself, like Gold PPO, the quotes are Gold PPO 1, Gold PPO 2.
- The AI's name wins. When the AI reads a plan name from the carrier's document, that name replaces the default.
- Community-rated plans keep their catalog names.
- The carrier shows once. A plan group named after its carrier displays as Aetna 2. A plan group you named displays with its carrier in front, like Aetna - Gold PPO.

Renaming a plan group
- In Quotes, open the plan group.
- Click the pencil button next to the plan group dropdown.
- In Rename Plan Group, type the new name in Plan Group Name and click Save.
- If another plan group of the same benefit on this RFP already uses that name, Plansight saves it with the next number (type Aetna and you get Aetna 2). The name field and the dropdown show the name that was saved.
Good to know
- Names are unique per RFP and per benefit. You can have an Aetna medical plan group and an Aetna dental plan group on the same RFP. Capitalization does not count, so aetna and Aetna are the same name.
- A name you type that is already taken gets a number. This applies everywhere you name a plan group: the rename dialog, the plan group form, New Plan Group Name when you choose Create New Plan Group from a quote, and the Excel template upload (including two rows with the same name in one file).
- Plan names inside a plan group are unique too. If you rename a plan with a Plan Name another plan in the same plan group already uses, or add a quote whose name is already in that group, Plansight saves it as Gold PPO 2.
- In-force plan groups on the employer follow the same rule. Renaming one to a name another in-force plan group of that benefit already uses saves it numbered.
- Saving never renames anything on its own. Only a name you change gets checked. Saving a plan group or quote with its name untouched leaves the name exactly as it is.
- Existing plan groups and quotes keep their names. Rename any of them whenever you like.
- Two names are reserved. Current Plan and Renewal Plan belong to the current and renewal plan groups, so Plansight tells you those names are not allowed.
- Renaming changes the label only. Quotes, rates, plan options and carrier links all stay with the plan group, and the quotes inside keep the names they already have. Rename a quote with its Plan Name field.
- Every plan group gets its own tab in the benefit's Excel export.
- Printed spreadsheets and market response show names you typed. A plan group still carrying its default name appears there by its carrier alone. Rename it and your name prints.
That's it: clean names you can read at a glance, numbered when they need to be, and always yours to change.
