Building Community-Rated Plan Groups from the Table
The community-rated table lets you select up to 20 plans and build as many as five plan groups in a single pass — faster than adding alternatives one at a time through Add Quote.

Selecting plans from the table

Open the Community Rated Medical Plans table for the renewal. Every plan available to the group based on the census SIC code and zip codes appears here.

  1. Click Add Filter to narrow the list. Filtering by carrier, then by network, is usually enough to reach a workable set.
  2. Select plans one at a time, or use the header checkbox to take the entire filtered list. A running count shows how many are selected.
  3. Keep the selection to 20 plans or fewer — that is the maximum a single build can hold.

Each row shows the plan's benefits alongside a monthly cost. That cost reflects what the group would pay if every employee on the census enrolled in that one plan, which makes the rows directly comparable to each other.

Building the plan groups

With plans selected, an action bar appears at the bottom of the table. It is only visible while a selection is active.

  1. Click Create Plan Groups. The builder opens with your selected plans listed on the left and empty plan group slots on the right.
  2. Set how many plan groups you want, up to five.
  3. Click a plan to drop it into the next open slot, or drag it into the exact position you want. Click a slot first to aim a click at a specific position.
  4. To copy a plan into another group, drag it from one group to another — the original group keeps its plan.
  5. Use the copy control on a plan group to duplicate the entire group, then swap individual plans to build a variation.
  6. Pull out any plan that does not fit and drop a different one into the slot.

As slots fill, each plan group shows its total cost, enrolled employee count, and the dollar and percent difference against your current plan group. A group coming in at a 20% decrease is worth carrying forward. One at a 65% decrease usually means the benefits moved further than intended — and you can see that before the group ever reaches the presentation.

Naming and rate basis

Name every group. A plan group cannot be created without a name. Short labels like Alt 1, Alt 2, and Alt 3 are enough to keep them distinct in the presentation.

Set the rate basis. Choose Age Banded or Composite for each group. Composite is only available where both the state and the carrier permit composite rates — everything else is age banded.

Once the groups are configured, click Create Plan Groups to finalize them.

After the groups are created

From there, you can open the presentation to see how the alternatives lay out, start another package from the same table, or review the plan groups side by side — where the SBC for each plan is available.

Common Questions

  • How many plans and groups can one build hold? Up to 20 plans spread across a maximum of five plan groups.
  • Does dragging a plan into another group remove it from the first one? No — dragging between groups copies the plan, so the original group keeps what it had.
  • Why is Composite unavailable for my group? Composite rates appear only when both the state and the carrier permit them. Otherwise, the group rates age banded.
  • What is the cost figure shown on each row of the table? The total monthly cost if every enrolled employee on the census took that one plan — which is what makes the rows directly comparable.
