RFP Basics
This article explains the key fields on the RFP Basics page, and how each one shapes the setup of a new RFP in Plansight.

The RFP Basics page is the first step in creating a new RFP in Plansight. This page captures the core setup details that determine how the rest of the RFP behaves—what plans get pulled in, which carriers can quote, and who receives notifications as quotes arrive. Each field is simple, but all of them play an important role in structuring the RFP correctly.

Effective Date

The effective date is the start date for the plans you intend to quote. If the employer already has in-force plans in Plansight, the system will prefill the effective date based on those existing plans. You can change it at any time. This date drives renewal comparisons and tells carriers what plan year the RFP applies to.

RFP Name

This is just a reference label for the event. Name it however you want—by employer, renewal year, line of coverage, or anything that helps keep your work organized. You can rename it later without affecting any quotes.

Situs State

The situs state determines where the plans in the RFP will be written and quoted. This comes from the employer profile and decides which carriers can access the RFP. Carriers must be configured to quote in that state. The situs state is also required for generating accurate community-rated quotes.

Plan Design Attributes Template

This selection controls which plan attribute template your brokerage uses for the RFP. It determines which plan details are captured during setup and which attributes appear in the final presentations. Your brokerage default is preselected, but you can switch to any other template available in the dropdown.

RFP Owner

The RFP Owner is the user who created the RFP. That person receives all email notifications as quotes are uploaded to Plansight. This helps keep communication clean and ensures the right person is notified when carriers submit their responses.
